Mother Released on Nintendo’s Virtual Console Today as Earthbound Beginnings

Mother launched on the NES in 1989, and was not localised. A third series entry, Mother 3, was released on Game Boy Advance in 2006, and has likewise not been officially localised.

Starring a young boy named Ninten who looks strikingly like “EarthBound” hero Ness, “Mother” features the same general RPG aesthetic that “EarthBound” fans already know and love.

Holy shit. Nintendo just announced that the first Mother game is coming to the U.S. for the first time-on the Wii U’s Virtual Console, as Earthbound Beginnings.

Featuring some great music, and a heartwarming script, Earthbound Beginnings is the ‘lost prequel’ to the series that has been overshadowed by the success of its sequels. Well, it’ll certainly be new to North American users, as it’s actually the original Mother, which was only released in Japan on Famicom. Earthbound Beginnings is now available for $6.99 on the Nintendo eShop. Lucas, Earthbound 2’s main character, was even added to Super Smash Bros.
