HomeLane launches VR based shopping experience – The Times of India

The HomeLane.com consumers are now able to practically use the virtual reality headsets for furnishing their houses as the online furnishing firm has unveiled its virtual reality-based device, Kaleido.

In simple words, you could see a three dimensional rendition of the kitchen’s design that you haven’t bought and also you’ll be able to change and choose colours, finishes, appliances like hobs and chimneys and the details like style of the cabinet handles, the countertop, the flooring and the backsplash without paying a single penny. In the age where e-commerce businesses are booming, and everything we do can be dealt on the interweb, the experience of purchasing furniture or envisioning different setup for your dream room on the web isn’t par with other industries whose products we happily snag from shopping portals.

Commenting on the new product, HomeLane’s co-founder and CEO Srikanth Iyer said, “We are using technology to completely revolutionize how people furnish their dream homes and the launch of HomeLane Kaleido is a major milestone in this direction”. As of now, they’ve presence in five Indian cities – Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune and Kochi. “It is an extremely immersive experience better than going to a showroom because in a showroom you won’t ever see what you really want at the end of the day”, Iyer explained.

Interestingly, co-founder and CSMO Rama Harinath says the new innovation is aimed at the middle class segment. HomeLane is already getting around 100+ projects per month. It will allow customers to view different combinations of the kitchen in real-time before taking the call.

The app also hosts Pepperfry Design Gurus community, through which users can initiate discussions by sharing images and queries with Pepperfry’s registered user base and interior design experts. By using this Google Cardboard powered immersive device along with other tools, the company is trying to bring the emporium to the buyer’s doorstep.

As per the records, the HomeLane.com is the first home furnishing firm in India that offers installation in six weeks from the order date, with a guarantee.

The company also plans on adding further improvements like augmented reality.

Like HomeLane, virtual reality has been adopted by many automobile manufacturers and fashion retailers to get a feel of color and texture.
